Why I'm a Vegetarian
I can't believe I've been a vegetarian for almost ten years! It hasn't been easy, but here's why I decided to give up meat, and the one non-vegetarian meal I STILL miss.
Something a lot of people don’t know about me is that I’m a vegetarian. It legit shocks people. I don’t know, maybe I seem like somebody who loves bacon. My main reason for being a vegetarian is that I’m an animal lover. Definitely NOT because I love vegetables.
It all started after a road trip I went on with my dad when I was 11. We passed a slaughterhouse and my dad really broke it down for me. I thought it was awful, all those animals getting packed up in there waiting to be killed. I couldn’t believe that’s how I’d been getting my meat!
It wasn’t until I saw the documentary "Glass Walls" by PETA that I officially decided to become a vegetarian. It’s so terrible, and my conscience is just too heavy. If you watch that documentary and don’t become a vegetarian after, I straight up don’t trust you. That’s what did it for me, and I’ve been a veggie-head ever since!
I used to love my In-N-Out order before, but I don’t miss it anymore. I don’t like the taste of meat. It actually makes me feel weird. The only thing I kind of miss are my mom’s famous turkey burgers, but that’s it.
After those first couple of days of being meat free, I had this crazy dream about raining hamburgers. You know that book "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"? It was like that, with giant food falling out of the sky. And I still remember the dream so clearly.
The only time I came close to slipping up was when I first went vegetarian. I was at my favorite Thai place with my mom and I ordered the chicken satay, like I always did. But then I was like, “Oh wait! I’m a vegetarian. Take it away, Mom!” I’m not gonna lie, that chicken in the peanut sauce is pretty bomb, but it’s just not worth it.
Now, to all you meat eaters who think veggie meals don't actually taste good, here are some of my favorite vegetarian meals that might win you over:
The quinoa burger is bomb by itself, but I always make sure to add buffalo sauce. Veggie Grill has a lot of vegan stuff, but not gross vegan. Like, good vegan. Get the crispy cauliflower too!
This one is my go-to. I'm no chef, but vegetable fried rice is not only easy to make, it's also hella tasty.
I do a grilled cheese with grilled onions and extra spread. It tastes just as good as the burger. And the animal style fries are unreal.
